Where to Stay in Chikkamagaluru

Short answer: For most first trips, a coffee estate homestay in the hills around Chikkamagaluru is the pick — it puts you inside the plantation landscape people come for. Choose a stay near Mullayanagiri if a sunrise climb is the plan, a larger home if you're travelling as a family, and a quiet, private stay for a couple's escape. Every Stayze stay is personally inspected before it's listed.

Chikkamagaluru isn't a single place to stay — it's a spread of coffee country, hill villages and working estates around the town. Where you base yourself shapes the whole trip. Here's how to choose.

Stay on a coffee estate

This is the classic Chikkamagaluru experience: waking up on a working plantation, an estate walk before breakfast, and coffee grown a few metres from your room. If the setting is the reason you're coming, start with coffee estate homestays — the plantations, cardamom and pepper are the point.

Base near the peaks and trails

If your trip is built around a sunrise at Mullayanagiri, Karnataka's highest peak, look at stays around Mullayanagiri and the coffee town of Aldur. You'll trade a little convenience for the early-morning head start and the quiet.

Travelling as a family

Families want room to spread out — enough bedrooms, common areas to gather, and a host who cooks for the table. Family homestays are the ones we've confirmed genuinely suit a group rather than just being large.

A couple's escape

For two, privacy and calm beat size. A smaller, private stay away from the road — a verandah, a view, dark night skies — is the brief. See .
